Share The Warmth

Same day, New Time! Share the warmth will be held on Tuesday, November 21st from 4:00-5:00 at the Waterville Grade School.

Join us at Colts Round-Up as we tie fleece blankets to be donated to area hospitals, shelters, and nursing homes.

It is that time of year when there is a chill in the air and leaves cover the ground. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I love the anticipation of holidays. It feels like there is magic all around.

I get so excited to make the trip home to gather with my family to celebrate this American holiday. There are so many things in my life to be thankful for this holiday season. I am thankful to have a job that I truly enjoy. I am thankful that I have met so many wonderful friends in Waterville and Blue Rapids that have taken good care of me. I am thankful for these great communities with these great kids that I get to work with on a daily basis.

So, when it's cold outside, warm it up on the inside with your families and take the time to remember what is important in your life. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Cheers!

P.M. Plus gets a new name!!

What was formerly known as P.M. Plus will now be known as "Colts Round-Up" thanks to 3rd grader, Micah Kenworthy. Micah won a contest held at the Waterville and Blue Rapids Grade Schools to find a new name for P.M. Plus. There were so many good names to choose from, so I had to consult the K-6 teachers. We had a vote at PLC and "Colts Round-up" won! A big thank you goes out to Micah!

Pumpkin Painting and Carving

Amanda Parker called me a few weeks ago and asked if our students would be interested in doing a project with Pumpkins to celebrate the Fall season. I jumped on the opportunity. On October 12, Amanda delivered 50 pumpkins to the Waterville Grade School and 25 pumpkins to the Blue Rapids Grade School.

Our P.M. Plus kids had a good time thinking of creative ways to join in with the Fall festivities. At Waterville the students got a chance to paint the pumpkins in any way they desired. At Blue Rapids the students got to practice their pumpkin carving skills. Thanks to Amanda Parker for allowing us this wonderful opportunity!

Cheers!

1st Week Under my Belt

It's official!! I have finally experienced the first week fo P.M. Plus. It was your typical first week, we had our problems, but I think we also had a lot of fun along the way. We have a great staff working here this session. They are all using their talents in many different ways, and I am so thankful to have them around. They include: Jean Adams, Jeannie Carder, Whitney Andersen, Raechel Lockhart, Sienna Stevenson, Chantel Niemeier, Tess Heberling, Lynette Steele-Coon, Shelby McNary, Katie Frohberg, Deb Meyer, Dana Baier, Marji Coon, Mike Koontz, Tera Kindle, Joyce deBoer, and Althea Wertz. If you see any of these people around, tell them thanks for doing such a wonderful job with your students. What a great team!

Comm. Ed. September Calendar

Sept. 5 P.M. Plus Begins!!!
Sept. 11 Commuinty Education Board Mtg. 7p.m. @ Community Ed. Office
Sept. 16 Recycling
Sept. 18 CNA/First Aid Class @ HS
Sept. 30 Family Picnic/Kickball 5p.m. @ Waterville Playground

It's that time of year!

There is something about the smell of Summer ending and Fall beginning that takes me back to wonderful memories of school and sports. School was starting to become comfortable and routine while the anticipation for football and volleyball was building. I don't know about you, but smells and music, for me, are like a time-machine. They can take me back to yesterday or years ago in a quick moment.
We, here at Community Ed., are preparing to start making memories for youngsters next week when P.M. Plus kicks off on September 5! We have had a good amount of interest and look to have another successful first session of P.M. Plus. Kathi and I have been busy getting everyone enrolled in classes. The new season of P.M. Plus should start with a bang!

One day when these youngsters grow older and the smell of Summer ending and Fall beginning returns, hopefully they will remember the excitement they felt about P.M. Plus and the memories gained through this fantastic program built especially for them.

Welcome!

This blog is new to the VH Community Education program! We are so happy that you stopped by for a quick visit. I am the new VH Community Education Director. My name is Katie McClellan. I thought starting this blog would be a great way for the community to stay connected and informed about what is going on at VH through Community Education. So this blog will serve as a Community Education journal that will allow you to see what we have been up to in the past and what we will be doing in the future. Feel free to post your comments in the comments box! I would love to hear from you!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check in weekly. New posts will be made periodically throughout the month. Hope to see you again soon!

Just keep livin'!
